What dentist does everyone go to? Has anyone gone in because of their wisdom teeth? Do you know how much about it costs to get them remove/ how much tricare covers? And do you have to pay it all on the spot?
Tricare covers different percentages of tooth extraction according to rank. They will not cover anesthesia at all that will come out of pocket or you can choose to stay awake.
ha, I just had mine taken out. We have delta dental however I think its the same percentage coverage as United Concordia.
The consult was $70(before insurance) and for 45 mins of anastecia(sp, really bad I know) and to have all 4 removed we paid $860 out of pocket.
I went to Dr Bell for my first 2 then to Dental Works for my next 2. Mine were already through the gum so I opted NOT to be put to sleep. It took 5 min, super easy, no pain, cost $80 a pair but I don't have Tricare, sorry.
i got all 4 of mine cut out at the same time...but it was in MB and i didn't have tricare...but we did have to pay everything that our insurance didn't cover the day i went in and it was about $600. I hope that helps....

really? I never knew that. lol
I had just a tooth removed, cost me $65 at Dr Meadows office in J'ville.
I won't talk about my wisdom teeth. I had them removed in the 80's. lol
I go to Dr. Lesan. He helped me get over my fear of dentists. Most dentists require payment the day the services are performed unless you have insurance, then they require your copay.
we have united Concordia...Crap...I am in excruciating pain right now from them coming in and someone told me that i need to get in asap cause its getting to the point that its hard to swallow and what not but we dont have $800 spare just laying around to pay right there that day....UGH lol...Why is that everything goes wrong at once? lol
You can call around and see if anyone will take payments (I don't know how likely that is). If they need out that bad you can call the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.
wow your dentists extracted your impacted wisdom teeth? funny, i went to an oral surgeon.
I did, too, back in the 80's. I lost my wisdom a long time ago.
i went to the same oral surgeon at 18 to take my wisdom teeth out that i went to when i was 4 when i had an impacted molar
I don't, but my parents go to the same dentist now that they did back in the 80's. lmao Actually, I think his son might have taken over. But they only switched because the dad retired.
I have United Concordia. I had 2 wisdom teeth extracted last Nov. One of them was impacted too. For both teeth, plus anesthesia, was 273.00. It wasn't bad at all. Mine was to the point where I got infections, so I needed them out ASAP. If you're having trouble swallowing, you might have an infection, which needs to be taken care of ASAP with antibiotics.
I went to a place off Henderson Drive. It was an Oral Surgeons office but I forget the name of the place now. I think it was Carolina something, I can't remember lol. Good luck, I know how painful that stuff can be. Oh my normal dentist is Dr. Veronica Taylor at Signature Smiles. She's awesome! She can get you in pretty fast too, and she's accepting new patients now. You should go to her, and then she can give you a referral to the Oral Surgeon.

Sorry but this information is incorrect. Tricare Dental provides the same coverage for all personnel, not based on rank.
When I was given the estimate for my tooth extraction I was told they will cover 75% for E-3 and below. I can't remember the percentages they said United Concordia covers for higher, it was like 50% for E-4 and higher.

They cover different percentages of certain benefits for E-4 and below. You pay more once you are above E-4
Oral surgery is covered at 70% for e-4 and below and 60% for e-5 and up
There it is, I couldn't remember the exact percentages and what not so i just said differs according to rank. Thanks.
I love NY's way of thinking... they take whatever united concordia pays them. military pays nothing out of pocket at all there. They figure that that is there way of paying back to the ones that serve in the military. I had all 4 taken out and paid nadda....
That was the only thing that i liked about being stationed in NY
I went to Dentist David Johnson on Henderson Drive. When I had to have my wisdom teeth taken out he referred me to Carolina Oral Surgery place which is right up the road from him. Hubby was an E-4 at the time and we ended up paying $112 for 3 wisdom teeth to be cut out. Truly not bad at all.
Did you opt to stay awake for it then?
No they had to put me asleep because the roots were really deep. They did really great, no problems, no dry sockets. I'd recommend them to everyone. They actually make you feel comfortable.
Oh, I guess since you had to be put to sleep it was covered. My Dr told me it was going to cost me $200-$300 out of pocket for anesthesia if I didn't want to be awake. :( I want to be asleep though and I am willing to pay.

Who do you go to...it's supposed to be covered because it is technically surgery?
It is technically surgery, but you do not have to be put to sleep for it. It can be done with a local anesthetic so since being put to sleep is more of a preference UC will not cover it.
Here is the info for the dentist I went through:
Regular Dentist:
David Johnson DDS
Henderson Drive Extension (Close to Western Blvd)
3301 Henderson Dr

For The Wisdom Teeth Surgery:
Carolina's Oral & Facial Surgery

That might have been what I had to pay for.
