Okay, so their animals just end up at Onslow County's shelter? I'm just looking for a shelter where I can go see some dogs/pups for adoption. I looked at a bunch of websites today and was just wondering about shelters I may not have already seen online. I went to petharbor.com (which searches the shelters) and petfinder.com (searches other shelters). I'm looking to help a rescued small breed dog or puppy.

HappyMomma --- 17 years ago -

To adopt one, you have to go to the Onslow County Shelter, and I know they had small breed dogs there (I was looking for one before we got Honeybee a bit back).

Stephanie --- 17 years ago -

I saw a couple online. I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss any. I'll call Onslow County and see about their hours and whatnot. I'd like to save one if I can. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket This was Tiny Tim Tebow. We got him Monday night. He got sick Tuesday morning. I nursed him as much as I could through the night. He seemed better Wednesday and even ate on his own. Thursday he fell ill again, so I took him to the vet first thing in the morning. They kept him all day and asked to keep him overnight. They called this morning. Tebow died in a cage.. all alone in the vet's office. He was loaded with tapeworms. The vet said by the size of the worms, he had to have gotten them shortly after birth (he just turned 7 weeks old today). Goes to show that you can't fully trust some breeders. We did all we could.. but the worms overpowered him. I only wish I could've brought him home last night so he could've at least felt loved.

HappyMomma --- 17 years ago -

Awww. He's so cute. I'm sorry that he died. That's so sad! :-(

S: Onslow county animal shelter is usually pretty good about updating their list of animals. There probably aren't as many in there right now as this morning was D-day but if you check back often there will be a ton of dogs/puppies in there. Also, if you are willing to wait until after Christmas-jan, there's usually a flood of animals that were Christmas presents.

j2as=amaya --- 17 years ago -

OMG that's sooo sad!!!

MorCayDen --- 17 years ago -

there's usually a flood of animals that were Christmas presents That's awful!!

thats so iresponsible of the breeder! i mean, if you have a litter, de-worm them! and that takes several times to rid them of worms. all pups are born with them. usually you can surley tell signs that they have them. the owners must have dropped the pups off to the pound early to be 7 wks old. usually when pups dont eat as much and are not gaining weight or loosing alot of weight it is a sure sign they have worms. we had a pup that had them badley. she was de-wormed the 1st time at two weeks, well needless to say bc of the waiting period of when you can worm them again, she was losing weight in the process. we had to let her feed on mamma and then pull her aside every 30 minutes to feed her again just to keep her from dying on us until we could get rid of them all together. she is now 9 months old and just as healthy. people dont realize that worms are very serious and even if you are experienced with dogs it can be a battle. i am so sorry for your loss. i hope that you feel better soon!

R: It may be sad but it's extremely true. Has anyone seen the cell phone commercial where the one girl gets a pony and it's chained to the dog house and her two friends got new cell phones and she's mad b/c she didn't get one.... That's all to true. People get a pony for their daughter and either drop it off at a stable and pay out the butt for full board and take the daughter out once in awhile to see it or it sits in the backyard and gets neglected b/c they didn't realize how much work/effort is required to care for a horse.

Stephanie --- 17 years ago -

the owners must have dropped the pups off to the pound early to be 7 wks old. I got him straight from the breeder Monday night, not the pound. She gave him a wormer right before we left and said if we saw any worms in his poop, they were just the dead ones. What we were seeing were pieces of the big a** tapeworms he had. My first thoughts when he got sick was maybe she overdosed him on the wormer.. he was passing TONS of worms. He was even throwing up pieces of them. He seemed so happy go lucky, without a care in the world when we first got him. I never would've thought this would happen. I trusted her that he was de-wormed. He would've probably died Tuesday night, but I kept forcing fluids and giving him rice cereal through a syringe into his mouth.. all through the night. Wednesday morning, he perked up and was running around.. chased the cat a little.. tried to be Mr. Big Man with the vacuum.. He even ate some chicken and a little puppy food. He didn't throw up at all Wednesday. Early Thursday morning he got sick again.. I kind of think maybe if I'd had him here, giving him at least the cereal.. maybe he would've been okay. The vet said all they gave him was fluids and they tried karo syrup to get his blood sugar levels back up. They only checked on him once or twice through the night.. poor little thing.

Since this subject has been talked about here, what product do you use to deworm a kitten from all worms. The teenage girl that cleans for me only has the kind that gets rid of one worm. For Christmas I wanted to buy her a basket and fill it with all kinds of animal products. She takes in strays and works for me to be able to keep them healthy till she can adopt them out. She does a great job. I am clueless at this stuff. Any cat owners out there that can point me to the good products that could help her and the kittens. She just took in 3 more this weekend. They were dumped in her housing area. Kittens can have more than one type of worm right??

*♡Thelma♡* --- 17 years ago -

M: you can go to petsmart and they have wormer made specifically for cats/kittens. I have shortcuts for dogs but not kittens.

$$~RITZGIRL~$$ --- 17 years ago -

im not sure for cats, but for dogs i use stringid. its from the vet. and it only costs me 6.00 for a bottle. not sure what other vets charge for it but it works great!

$$~RITZGIRL~$$ --- 17 years ago -

I got him straight from the breeder Monday night, not the pound. She gave him a wormer right before we left and said if we saw any worms in his poop, they were just the dead ones. the pup you recieved does not seem to have come from a reputable breeder, bc if they were, your pup wouldnt leave less than 8 wks old and would have been vet checked including tested for worms prior to the pup leaving. i would even be willing to bet that the pup wasnt even wormed correctly or by a decent worming medication. secondly, pups normal de-worming should be at 2wks, 4 wks, 6 wks, and 8 weeks.then tested for worms again. if you paid money for this pup you really should persue to get a refund bc this was an issue that resulted in death very quickly after sale. last of all, any time you get a puppy wether you bought it or recieved it for free, you should have them seen by a vet that day! and if buying from a reputable breeder you should be alloted 72 hours for problems such as this. but to have worms that badley and bc i am experienced with dogs, that breeder did not take percautions to that puppys health and this was the final result. as an owner od 5 dogs. any dog that would display such signs would be seen immediatley regardless of work ext...especially if the pup fell ill.

rtzgirl - Your puppies in your picture are cute!!!

$$~RITZGIRL~$$ --- 17 years ago -

thanks! that was the last litter at 4 1/2 weeks old. eating gruel

Awwww..... Wait, what's gruel? lol

$$~RITZGIRL~$$ --- 17 years ago -

haha. its whatever a breeder chooses for their first meals to prepare their tummys for regular hard food. usually pups will lick the corner of the dams mouth thus producing her to regurgitate her food. this is their first meals. but since we are more modern we choose to make our own food for them.lol make sense now?

Stephanie --- 17 years ago -

the pup you recieved does not seem to have come from a reputable breeder hindsight is 20/20.. I met her by chance and really didn't start thinking of her as a backyard breeder until the pup got sick. She did try returning my husband's call, though, so at least she's not ignoring us completely.

lol make sense now? Yup gotcha! lol. Are the dogs in your picture English Bulldogs?

$$~RITZGIRL~$$ --- 17 years ago -

tylers mom- yes they are. little piggy's hahah. stephanie- no one thinks of people that way until its too late. did you pay for this dog?

Awwwww! I have always wanted one but never got one.

$$~RITZGIRL~$$ --- 17 years ago -
