I need (current) info on both areas please! What do you like/dislike? Where would you live if you had to choose between the two? Etc. We were told the waitlist for WG is 3-5 months, so it looks like we are going to be in BM. My husband is E6, we have 2 boys and 2 large dogs. Move date is in February and we are coming from San Diego.

Any info is GREATLY appreciated! Thank you and happy holidays!!

I have lived in BM and currently live in WG. I loved my kitchen space more in BM but that is about it. There is also Knots over on TT that is E6 and those are exactly the same as WG. Last I saw they could not fill those so it might be a good shot to ask about. The only thing I hate about WG is the linen closet is a joke and the ants are driving me insane!!!

we have only lived in BM, but the biggest difference, IMO, is that BM are single family homes whereas the others are all duplexes.

I prefer to have my very own 4 walls. We've shared enough over the course of our lives, so I wouldn't do it unless we absolutely had to.

BM might be a bit smaller, but it's worth it to me. :)

We don't live on base currently, though.

Thanks!

Dionne, is TT off base? And if so, will it take long for my husband to get to work on base with all the traffic?

Dmc, I am with you about having a single family home! My only concern is that the homes are old. I get worried about mold/air quality/ etc. Are these renovated homes in good condition?

Dionne --- 12 years ago -

Yes TT is that off base/ on base area. Traffic I have no clue since we live on the main area of base. The BM houses are old and they just finished renovations of the whole area at the beginning of this year. We lived in ours for 2 yrs and never had mold issues there.

The only housing areas (for enlisted) on Camp Lejeune base are BM and all the Watkins. It might take a little while to get to/from work during the week. The only plus to some of them is that it puts you in town if that's an issue.

I haven't been in a BM house in years, and then it was only to visit someone. I don't know anyone in them, so no idea about mold issues. Like Dionne said, though, they are newly renovated. I have lived in BM 3 times in my life and never had any issues. But like I said, it's been years.

Mold needs organic matter and moisture to thrive. If I was going to move into a house, I would want proof that the roof does not leak, the crawl space does not flood, and the duct work does not sweat. Also, I would insist on an air quality mold test by an independant contractor.

I live in Berkeley Manor for the reason dmc stated. My family is too loud and chaotic to be in an attached unit. BM has larger yards but they aren't fenced unless you yourself put one up. Its old, and small, but clean and functional. My kitchen is pretty big, though. I have my own appliances because BM seems to have gotten the shaft in that area of the construction and renovation process. The WG homes are more pleasing to the eye. But if I want to vaccum at 3 am I wont be bothering anyone. Same goes for having company over. It wouldnt bother my neighbors. Kwim.

Aren't they building a bridge from TT to Lejeune?

dmc21 (Mod) --- 12 years ago -

I always thought the living areas of BM were very decently sized. Kitchen, dining, living rooms. And didn't they build the old screened porches into like a den type area? So 2 living areas, which is pretty cool. one for the kids, one for the adults, if you chose.

Yes, I'd much prefer my own area.

I used to yell a lot. I've mellowed in my old age, though. I just shake my head, laugh, and keep right on going. ha ha
