So my husband (like most men) is not very good at getting information to me. And I'm am the very much plan things out in advance person so this is driving me nuts. Can anyone please tell me what all happens when he EAS? Everything from info on TMO and how long he gets paid. I'm also very nervous because I'm having our first baby 2 weeks before his EAS. So insurance is a big issue as well. Any and all information would be helpful!!

dmc21 (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

he's required to take the SEPS class, see if you can plan to go with him.

Krystal in NC --- 13 years ago -

Why don't you ask him to see if he can request an extension until after you have the baby. I was in the Marine Corps and expected to have my oldest son after my EAS and I put in an extension request for 6 months but it only got approved for 2 months. Enough time for me to have my son while still in the Marine Corps. Find out if your husband can do the same thing.

And SEPS and TAPS is required and they go over the TMO and all of that in those classes. I think they are supposed to do it about a month before the EAS. i got out 6 years ago so I don't know if things have changed

MissJamieLynn --- 13 years ago -

He already took SEPS and TAPS and I was working and couldn't go with. And I'm having the baby before his EAS. But how does TMO work with the EAS process? I've heard alot of bad things about stuff not arriving on time, things getting broken, etc.

you hear that complaint whether it's EAS or PCS, so you just take your chances or do a DITY move.

MissJamieLynn --- 13 years ago -

Do they have to replace things if stuff does get broken? I had family members spend alot of money on baby furniture so I'm really nervous about it getting busted up.

dmc21 (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

they give you money, but I am not sure if it's full replacement. Your renter's insurance may also cover damage, call them and ask.

He'll have to take a TMO class to set it up, try and make it to that one. Unless you do a DITY, then try to make it to that one.

The last time we had something broke, we settled on an amount, but it wasn't full replacement. It fell coming off the truck (a freezer). So we just did a 'quick claim'.

Yeah but if he requests and extension maybe you could save up a little bit of money or something before he gets out. If they approve it. Just a suggestion. Why would you be worried about insurance though if you are having the baby before he gets out?

MissJamieLynn --- 13 years ago -

Do you know about insurance and pay info? I heard that he might not get paid at all in january since he is getting out that month but it doesn't seem like that's right when he has to go to work they would have to pay him til hes out right?

MissJamieLynn --- 13 years ago -

I'm worried about insurance because of all the shots that are due within the first year of a baby's life and my postpartum check-up and having to go find a new doctor for all of that.

dmc21 (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

my husband is still AD, so no, I don't know about that.

I know some have posted stuff, so you could try and search this website for information, but the search bar kinda sucks. :(

No idea about insurance either, sorry. I know sometimes they keep it for a few months, but it also depends on why they are getting out.

Is he taking terminal leave? Or selling back his leave days? I don't know how that works when they EAS either. My husband will be retiring.

dmc21 (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

is there no way he would reenlist? Or check into an extension?

Krystal in NC --- 13 years ago -

I heard that Tri Care last a little while after they get out but I don't know how true that is b/c I never had to worry about it after I got out. He might want to check into that to see if it's true or not.

He should get a pay check after he gets out but it depends on when he gets out how much it is I think. Is he going to sell back any leave days? He could get money for that too

Krystal in NC --- 13 years ago -

See I think an extension would be a great idea. Maybe if he has done great in the MArine Corps he could get if for up to 1 year. I don't know how long they can request it for. I only requested 6 months but got 2 which was fine with me.

dmc21 (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

with all the cutbacks, it's really hard telling these days, though. :(

Krystal in NC --- 13 years ago -

yep True.

MissJamieLynn --- 13 years ago -

He already tried to re-enlist they wouldn't let him too many in his MOS, too many cut backs.

dmc21 (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

:(

I know guys in my husband's MOS have been having trouble for about 2 years reenlisting and such. It's bad, but it is what it is I suppose.

FarmerA --- 13 years ago -

well if he gets out and you don't have insurance you AND the baby can get on medicaid. The baby will be covered for a year and you will be covered for 6 weeks post. You pay your taxes so if it is needed it's needed. Its not like you are going to sit on it and collect a check, its there to help.

FarmerA --- 13 years ago -

Did you know he was going to get out what you got pregnant? I guess I am a super plan aheader.......
