Hey guys! Just wondering if anyone has had a root canal done (with united concordia insurance) and if so how much did you wined up paying out of pocket? Also does anyone recommend a dentist here? Thanks :):)

I don't remember exactly what I "wined" up paying, but I think it was around $500. Can't remember for the life of me what the name of the endodontist was but he was referred by Anderson & Slack. He did a great job, but his bedside manner was a little.....uh....off kilter.

Maureenie --- 14 years ago -

My daughter recently (like 2 months ago) had a root canal done by Dr Robert Sherman at 200 Doctors Park Dr. We paid out of pocket just under $500.

If you need to, Navy Relief can sometimes give interest free loans or grants for expensive dental work.

Dr Robert Sherman at 200 Doctors Park Dr.

I think that's who did mine. Did you find him a little weird? Was it massage day for the employees when you were there?

Someone --- 14 years ago -

Was that just the root canal or did that include the crown too? I ask because I'm facing some expensive dental work and was curious how much it costs elsewhere.

Maureenie --- 14 years ago -

No that was JUST the canal. A crown from my dentist is $556.

QS, he was kinda weird but there wasn't any touching of people. He just seemed socially ackward.

Shae --- 14 years ago -

I paid about $400 for everything.

ndnjumpingbean --- 14 years ago -

i had one done by Dr. Kriebel, next to Texas Roadhouse. i'm fairly positive i paid under $200. the crown, however, is around $400. i love Dr. Kriebel, great staff and awesome with my kids.

dmc... --- 14 years ago -

if a dentist told you you needed a root canal, why didn't you get the plan, that would have the estimated cost?
I have always gotten one from my dentist for both my son and I.

I think my root canal was a few hundred dollars, but I cannot remember. I think about what bean said. It was even up here in VA, and all the costs seem higher up here.

Shae --- 14 years ago -

And as far as a dental rec, I really like Armstrong and Tant on Henderson.

Someone --- 14 years ago -

Shoot, I may stay in Kansas longer than planned and get work done there. I need to check costs. For a root canal and crown through my dentist it's $1629. I also need to see an endodontist for 2 root canals which she estimated to start at about $1500 each, not counting the crown, which is about $1000 each.

Skankalicious --- 14 years ago -

Someone, I went to Dr Bell/Covert here in Jax to have my tooth fixed. I needed a root canal, post/build up, gingivectomy, and the crown (which is made in-office in less than 10 minutes) and all of that cost me $1365. About a month later I got a check for $140 reimbursing me for what UC actually paid, since dental payments are based on an estimate. My tooth was broken all the way down below the gumline in back and almost that far in front. Super cute.

Skankalicious --- 14 years ago -

Oh, and my initial exam was $24.

Maureenie --- 14 years ago -

Dmc, if the dentist refers you out to an endodontist, you have to wait for the endodontist to do the initial visit for the plan.

dmc... --- 14 years ago -

you did realize she asked for a dentist, right? Not an endodontist. Which is why I asked what I did.
I also asked her, she'd know why she did, or didn't, get something from a dentist saying that she needs a root canal.
She also could be guessing she needs one (from past experience). I can also guess why she didn't get one, I preferred to ask her why she didn't. :D

Maureenie --- 14 years ago -

I was just giving a possibility.

dmc... --- 14 years ago -

I can guess on my own, but thanks for yours.

crAzybeAutiful --- 14 years ago -

yea I didnt call a dentist because from past experience Im pretty sure I'll be needing a root canal. During pregnancy my teeth became horrible :(
But thanks for all the advice guys! I'll be calling dental offices today!

Skankalicious --- 14 years ago -

Also, many dentist offices offer care credit, which is basically a loan and can be with zero interest.

dmc... --- 14 years ago -

ew, I couldn't imagine being pregnant and needing to get a root canal. You poor dear.

*hugs*

Good luck finding one to make you feel all better!

Skankalicious --- 14 years ago -

ha, dmc, i did with joshy, and the dentist was being VERY conservative with the novacaine. Ouch.

I've only had one root canal (and child lol). They were both pretty miserable experiences. No way in hell I'd want to do them at the same time. ha ha

Skankalicious --- 14 years ago -

Terrible terrible time! Then, when he was about 2 weeks old, I needed that tooth yanked. Yeahhhhhhhhh.

dmc... --- 14 years ago -

the same one you got the root canal on??? Oye!

The closest I got was the dentist who did the root canal was pregnant. bwahahahahah She was funny. There was a kid running around the office. She looked at the hygienist and said 'when I get back, can I tell them I don't want to work on kids?'

Skankalicious --- 14 years ago -

Yeah, they did the root canal, and it started to hurt so a few days after it was done he drilled it all out, so i had a huge hole in that tooth. We were in the middle of moving, I was 6 months pregnant, and the other dude couldn't fit me in to fix it with a crown. None of the dentists in my home town would touch me, being in the 3rd trimester, so that tooth eventually just broke away. Thankfully it was the back molar!

Skankalicious --- 14 years ago -

and lmao at "don't want to work on kids". I'm hoping to get a job at a peds dentist office when i finish college :)

^^ This^^

CB- Dr. Conley referred me to an endo in Wilmington because she was cheaper than the doc in Jacksonville. I never felt anything and the staff was wonderful if you would like her info.I had two last year (thank you children) and the first one maxed out my UC, so I had to pay $1400 out of pocket for the second one and then I think $500-600 for the crown. Good luck- the most painful part to me was the financial reaming.

she wasn't even working on the kid! LOL It was pretty funny.

Timing always seems to suck when you need dental work!
