Keeping your dog from barking while you're gone. Apparently, I got a complaint about my barking dog. Even though we've been living here for about 2 weeks, someone decides to make a compliant about him barking "all day yesterday and today." Even though, I'm home now and he's quiet. I just wanted to see if anyone could give me advice on how to keep him from barking. They are doing construction and stuff and the neighbors above us like to make a lot of noise, so I don't know if that's what is causing him to do that or what! TIA!

This is probably the issue. Dogs barking during the day shouldn't be an issue. At night, however, that's a problem.

yea shock collar. everytime they bark it goes off. works for my dogs. some people might think its cruel but really havent found anything else that works.

Erin Marie --- 7 years ago -

The construction is probably making him bark. How close is it from you?

Susie Homemaker --- 7 years ago -

Don't use a shock collar.

Your dog is probably barking because of the construction. I didn't think someone could complain about a dog barking during the day.

That is cruel. Dogs bark.

I didn't think so either, but apparently they can..lol! I was only gone for an hour and I seriously doubt he barked the entire time I was gone. I was gone all day Friday and didn't get a complaint then or anytime before that when I was gone most of the day! I'm here at night and he's quiet at night, especially when I'm here.

Bring the dog inside?

Shock collars are lame.

hellonheelz --- 7 years ago -

The dog is inside..we live in an apartment.

Skoocharoo --- 7 years ago -

citronella bark collar maybe?

one of my dogs barks at everything. she'll sit at the window and just stare out. she doesn't understand that just because she SEES someone else's yard, doesn't make it HERS to protect.

Dreamer --- 7 years ago -

Why not take the dog to the vet and have them do the surgical bark removal?

You know I didn't know that was for real until recently. I would personally never be able to do that just because I'd want the dogs to wake me up if there is someone sneaking around my house.

Erin Marie --- 7 years ago -

I'd never do that to a dog.

Momma Fox --- 7 years ago -

Do you have any new neighbors with dogs? When I was really young someone called in to report our dog all the time and we ended up having to give her away. Hope everything works out!!

Momma Fox --- 7 years ago -

dp. LU is being super slow

Skoocharoo --- 7 years ago -

I'd never do that to a dog.

I threaten to do it to the puppy all the time, with my bare hands. It just sounds good though, lol.

Dreamer --- 7 years ago -

I would if I was living in an apartment or on base housing with a dog. It would help to stop the complaints or someone having to get rid of the dog because of it.

citronella bark collar No
shock collar - NOOOOO
surgical bark removal & H3LL NOOOOO!!

Dogs bark, that's what they do! If it is something that is new - it is probably the construction or the new environment. (you said you've only lived there two weeks)

If it continues to be a problem...contact a professional trainer. NOT one that uses adverse "solutions" like mentioned above. I have the number of a GREAT trainer! If you want her number PM me & I would be happy to give it to you. Otherwise, google safe solutions for the problem! There are other humane ways of correcting this problem!

Erin Marie --- 7 years ago -

If you can't deal with barking, don't have a dog. That's their communication.

I am so glad my neighbors dont mind my dog barking. She scares off potential threats.

Kujos mom --- 7 years ago -

I got my dog a partner in crime.... another dog. For some that's great and some it will not work. Kongs stuffed with things work good too and lots of toys too. Good luck!!!!

IF you were reading, it's not me complaining. Someone who lives in my apartment building was complaining about it. He doesn't bark that much when I'm at home. This was apparently while I was out in town, but when I came home, I specifically stood by my car to listen to see if I could hear any barking and I couldn't. But I will definitely see about that trainer, Bogy's mom (if they complain again)!

Just let me know! I would be more then happy to give you her number. She is AWESOME!!! I am actually training under her to get my certification myself.

Maybe it was another dog is the building & they thought it was yours.

I wasn't talking about you. I was just making a statement about people who get their voice removed.
