So it's been forever since I've posted here, but with the Gunny board coming up, I was wondering if anyone here could point in the right direction to find out what zone my husband is in this year??
And doesn't the board meet tomorrow (Apr 16)?
jab- u wouldnt happen to have the link to the ssgt booard would u? my hubby was put in for meritorius pickup and should know something when the board gets together this summer... he thinks he "may" be in zone this year anyways...

Here's the link to start looking. I just happened to come across that last night. I don't know when the SSgt info came out so it may or may not be easier to find. It will, more than likely, be further back because that board starts before the Gunny board.
Ugh, 9 weeks to wait to see if mine got passed over AGAIN this year. I hate his MOS, there are so few billets available over SSgt that you pretty much have to wait for someone to retire to get promoted.

I know how that is...my husband got passed over so many time...But thats b/c he didnt kiss enough @$$ to get promoted...now we are leaving the wonderful town of jville shortly!!! thank god!! LOL...

my husband never kissed butt, and he's never been passed over for any rank. He just doesn't have the butt kissing gene. If anything, he's got the opposite gene, the feather rustling one. That actually helped get his last promotion, 2+ years before his peers.

LOL...mine is the same way.
It all depends on the job I guess. Mine won't kiss up either, but it doesn't matter in his job. Thankfully we are leaving here soon, and there are a ton more billets open where he is going to. Maybe he can actually get e-8 before he retires now!!
it doesn't matter if he's at Lejeune, 29 Palms or anywhere else. There's the same amount of billets regardless. Going somewhere else won't necessarily help him get promoted. Although, getting off of 'homesteading' certainly can't hurt. I'm sure when they look at his jacket, they don't care for the fact he's been in one place for 15 years. They (meaning the board) might be a bit jealous. lol
you can access the board schedule from marines.mil Just go to the promotion section, and pick the appropriate one. Typically, anytime from 3 days before it lets out (by their date), to a few days after, is when the promotion list is made public.
Unless you know a CP or CRS, they sometimes get an advance copy.
you didn't say what rank, so that goes for all the SNCO ranks. It's all pretty much the same.
I do know SSGT = summer
E-8 = mid December
E-9 = mid November-ish
No idea about Gunny. Can't remember.
Some MOS' and ranks, it's expected to be passed over the first time. So few spots, so many Marines. lol Especially the higher some of them get.
Yep, Hubby was in zone last year albeit early for a SSgt, but they only promoted 4 in his MOS. It was a bummer. This year it's 16 so fingers are crossed. GySgt at 10 yrs isn't too bad.
my husband was a Sgt for almost 6 years. lol He'd been in about 10 before he picked up SSGT. lmao This was the 90's though. He was only a SSGT for 2 years, so it all worked out in the end.

My hubby was a Cpl for 5 years because his MOS was frozen at the time (back in the mid 90's) He was a Sgt for 2 years and SSgt for 4 years and Gunny for 5 years. He's pretty much on track in his MOS now. Some promote quick and some don't. My neighbor will pin on Gunny May 1 and he's been in 9 1/2 years sooooooo.
Yep, my husband got Sgt quickly, less than 2 1/2 years but he worked his butt off for it. It will be a long while before his next pickup!
He went into boot as a PFC because of all of his college hours. He got the rest of the ranks meritoriously
